What Stick and Curve Does William Nylander Use?

Smooth with the puck and consistently on the score sheet this season, William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs has established himself as a premier forward in the NHL. He is well known for his puck control and dual-threat ability to both setup goals and score them.

Nylander’s has become a point-per-game player, but its important to note what tool is helping him shoot, pass, and dangle around his opponents. Lets look at what stick and curve William Nylander uses in the NHL.

What Kind of Stick Does William Nylander Use?

William Nylander uses the SHERWOOD CODE TMP PRO hockey stick with 77 flex and a custom curve. It is a high-caliber stick, incorporating Mitsubishi’s Pyrofil Carbon Fiber for unmatched durability and lightweight performance. With a hybrid kick point it offers the perfect mixture of quick release and ultimate power.

The CODE TMP is ergonomically designed with an R Shape shaft and features an Energized Velocity Taper, which helps amplify the power behind his shots and passes. The blade is complete with I-92 dampening inlay, and offers enhanced control and feel, making the stick a true extension of Nylander’s hands.

Nylander is sponsored by Sherwood hockey now, which is why we see him using Sherwood hockey sticks and other gear like his Sherwood Rekker Legend Proo LE gloves.

What Curve Does William Nylander Use?

Nylander prefers a unique custom curve on his SHERWOOD CODE TMP PRO, it is a combination of the Sherwood PP14 and PP28 (similar to the popular P14 and P28 curves). His curve has a huge toe hook, but the heel of the blade stays relatively straight and flat, then opens from the middle out.

His curve allows for a powerful lift on shots and great puck-handling control, which Nylander utilizes with precision in tight spaces.

What Flex Does William Nylander Use?

The flex of Nylander’s stick is a 77 flex, a common choice among forwards who balance shot power with a quick release. He doesn’t take many slap shots, so his flex can stay relatively low to get that enhanced snap release to increase speed and power.

Does William Nylander Spray Paint His Hockey Stick?

Yes, Nylander adds a personal touch by spray painting the bottom portion of his stick white from the heel of the blade area up about a foot or so. He used to use black but changed it to white in 2019.

The reason behind this isn’t really confirmed, but it may make it harder for the goalie to see it. Its likely just a superstition as many hockey players are extremely superstitious.

Sherwood has even released a retail version of Nylander’s stick, aptly named the “Willy Styles,” which mimics this custom aesthetic right out of the box, showcasing an all-white hosel and blade for increased puck visibility.

See it here on Sherwood’s website.

What Color Stick Tape Does Nylander Use?

Nylander’s choice of tape is white for both the blade and the top knob of the stick. He uses the wide hockey tape over the standard size, which is 1.5 inches versus 1 inch. He wraps the blade right up to the heel and completely around the toe.

On top of the stick at the knob he uses white grip tape for extra grip and handling.
